South Weymouth, MA —  South Shore Hospital is pleased to announce that the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) has awarded national certification to both the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs at South Shore Hospital.

This certification means that South Shore Hospital’s Cardiac Rehab and Pulmonary Rehab programs are both recognized as “best practice” models and meet the strict national care standards set by the AACVPR.

The two programs are staffed by a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals. The cardiac rehab team consists of cardiac nurses, exercise physiologists, registered dietitians, pharmacists, occupational therapists, a nurse manager and the medical director.  The pulmonary rehab team consists of respiratory therapists, physical therapists, registered dietitians, occupational therapists, pharmacists, a nurse manager and the medical director.

Among the program elements examined in the evaluation process were the skills of the staff, quality of equipment and facilities, documentation, individualized patient care plans and patient outcome measurements. A recertification with the AACVPR will be required every two years.

South Shore Hospital is one of only eight hospitals in Massachusetts to receive this certification for cardiac rehab and one of only five to receive it for pulmonary rehab.
