South Weymouth, MA — South Shore Hospital has again earned a Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence from the Texas-based Voluntary Hospitals of America (VHA), an organization dedicated to the success of not-for-profit, community-based health care. The award recognizes exemplary performance in preventing surgical infections. South Shore Hospital is one of only 264 hospitals in the United States to earn a VHA Leadership Award in 2007. South Shore Hospital previously earned this distinction in 2005.
The VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence honors hospitals that achieve exceptional results when compared with national performance standards. South Shore Hospital exceeded standards in two core, clinical measures for preventing surgical complications and infection. They include:
Prophylactic antibiotic received by patient within one hour prior to surgical incision
Prophylactic antibiotics discontinued by patient within 24 hours after surgery end time
It takes dedication, focus, and consistency to earn this national recognition. Congratulations go to all South Shore Hospital clinicians in perioperative services and in the anesthesiology, surgery, orthopedics, OB/GYN, infectious disease and quality management departments for integrating these best practices in patient safety.
South Shore Hospital is a tax-exempt, charitable provider of acute, emergency, outpatient, home health, and hospice care to the people of Southeastern Massachusetts.
South Shore Hospital employs 3,500 full- and part-time employees and features Southeastern Massachusetts’ largest and most clinically diverse medical staff, with more than 800 members.
