South Shore Hospital’s Emerson building has been expanded to meet the needs of the growing number of people choosing South Shore Hospital for care. The building, which opened in 1989, is named in honor of Dr. George Emerson, a hospital founder.
The original four-story Emerson building has been expanded by 40 feet and two new floors have been added. Through the doors of the new McKim Family Main Entrance is a spacious lobby with a Café and all-new Friends of South Shore Hospital Gift Shop. The Paul Snell Conference Center has been opened on the second floor, adjacent the dining room. A total of 60 new, private inpatient rooms have been added to the building to meet the specific needs of medical, surgical, orthopedic and cancer patients.
South Shore Hospital is grateful to the generous individuals, businesses and foundations who contributed more than $40 million toward the Campaign for Healing, Caring and Comforting in support of the Emerson Expansion, cancer care, orthopedic care, and home care.
