Life’s journey has a beginning and an end. Hospice care helps patients and families reach a place where they can begin to look at death as a natural part of life. By providing terminally ill individuals and their families with medical care and comfort measures that allow patients freedom from pain, hospice services make it easier to keep the focus on the quality of the life a patient has left to live. With hospice, the end of life is approached with dignity and handled with love.

Hospice Bereavement Services
Family-centered bereavement support is made available from the time of admission through thirteen months beyond a patient’s death. Bereavement support is provided by our nurses, social workers, chaplain, specially trained bereavement volunteers and our bereavement coordinator.
After a death, bereavement support includes:
- Phone outreach
- Mailings to our bereaved family members
- Support groups and programs—both ongoing and time-limited
- Annual service of remembrance
Support groups and special programs are open to members of the community as well as to our hospice families. For current information, please call 781-624-7080.
Hospice Volunteer Services
At Hospice of the South Shore, we have great appreciation and respect for people who give of themselves by serving as volunteers. These generous, kindhearted individuals are key members of our hospice care team, often working directly with patients and families—providing compassion, companionship and emotional support.
