South Shore Hospital offers services to support women and their families through pregnancy and birth. Services include childbirth classes, parenting instruction, breastfeeding support, as well as home health services to ease the transition home. Helpful resources are also available for women and families who experience a pregnancy loss.
Expecting Mother and Family Education Program
South Shore Hospital’s Expecting Mothers and Family Education Program provides interactive, hands-on education to support women and their families throughout the transition from pregnancy to parenting. Our education program includes childbirth classes, baby care instruction, and breastfeeding support.
During an introductory period in 2014, South Shore Hospital offered childbirth education classes at no charge. A nominal fee to register for classes beginning Wednesday, April 1, 2015 and beyond will include: Childbirth Preparation ($99), Ready for Breastfeeding ($40), and Newborn Essentials ($40). For more information and to register for the class of your choice view our calendar of events.
We are offering a 50% discount for employees on registration fees for these three classes. Please call 781-624-3300 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Class Fees, Insurance Coverage, and Financial Hardship
Class fees cover the expectant mother and one support person. Many insurance policies and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) programs will cover at least a portion of the classes. Check with your insurance provider and/or Human Resources department to find out if you are eligible for reimbursement. Following class completion, you will receive a certificate to submit to your insurance provider. Be sure to keep your email confirmation as your receipt of payment for the classes.
If you have questions or difficulty registering for a class, or if you would like information about financial assistance, please call Childbirth Education at 781-624-3300 or email email@example.com.
Class Cancellation and Refund Policy
South Shore Hospital reserves the right to cancel a class in the event of inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. For inclement weather, contact the hospital switchboard at 781-624-8000, after 7:30 a.m. for morning classes, after 12 p.m. for afternoon classes and after 5 p.m. for evening classes. For low enrollment cancellations, you will be notified at least 48 hours prior to the class start date. If your class is cancelled, you may either apply the payment toward another class, OR you may request a full refund. Payments made electronically will be processed within one to two business days. If you paid by check, a refund check in the amount of the class will be mailed to you within two weeks.
If you need to cancel due to a medical issue that precludes you from attending or because you have delivered your baby already, we will provide a full refund upon receipt of physician documentation. Please fax your documentation to 781-624-3597, Attn: Childbirth Education Department. If you miss a class for a non-medical reason you will not be reimbursed; however, you may change to a different class up to three business days before your class is scheduled, depending on space availability. By registering for a class, you are agreeing to this policy. If you need to reschedule your class, please call Childbirth Education at 781-624-3300 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
