Community Exercise Programs

The Rehabilitation Department at South Shore Hospital offers a wide variety of community exercise programs for various ages and conditions.  Our programs are held in our new gym at 780 Main Street or one of our therapeutic pools at the hospital's main campus.  All programs are designed to improve overall wellness and functional status.  Seasonal programs are also available to the public.

Some of the benefits of utilizing our community programs include:

  • Exercise in a supportive peer setting
  • Educate yourself regarding health and wellness
  • Improve functional status
  • Make a lifestyle change for the better

Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program (Pool Only)children's conditioning program

Individuals with arthritis may participate in this class to increase range of motion and strength.

Child/Teen Conditioning Program (Pool and Gym Combined)

For children/teens between the ages of seven and fifteen, this program focuses on improving body composition and cardiovascular condition. Gym and pool components.

Intermediate Exercise for 55 Plus (Gym Only)

The Intermediate Program is a higher-level exercise program for seniors.  Gym-based program meets 2-3 days a week. Open to men and women.

Men’s Fitness (Gym Only)

Circuit-based workout program for men over 55.  Program improves strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health. Meets 2-3 days a week.

Morning Jumpstart Workout (Gym Only)

Early morning workout program designed to improve core strength, flexibility and body composition.

Osteoporosis Exercise Program (Gym Only)

Individuals with osteoporosis or osteopenia may participate in this gym-based program to maintain bone density and improve posture.

Parkinson’s Exercise (Pool and Gym Combined)

A gym and pool program designed specifically for those with Parkinson’s disease, includes stretching, strengthening and balance.

Personal Training

Individual pool or gym training for clients with specific fitness goals or medical issues.

Postnatal Exercise Program (Gym Only)

Women who have recently given birth may participate in this gym program to help them return to pre-baby shape. Babies are welcome, but no sitter service is available.

Prenatal Exercise Program (Pool and Gym Combined)

Our gym- and pool-based program is available to women at any stage of pregnancy to maintain fitness until delivery.

Senior Aquatic Conditioning (Pool Only)

Individuals over the age of 55 may participate in this pool program designed to improve cardiovascular condition and muscular strength.

Women's Aquatic Conditioning (Pool Only)

Any woman can benefit from this pool program focusing on strengthening, flexibility and cardiovascular exercises.  Held twice a week — this circuit-based exercise program focuses on improving strength and body composition.

  • Softball Conditioning
