Chest Pain Center

South Shore Hospital is the first medical facility in New England to offer a Chest Pain Center that’s fully accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers.

If a patient presents in the emergency room with chest pain, our physicians and nurses respond immediately using a specific set of protocols, such as an initial EKG administered within five minutes or less. Patients with heart attack EKGs are sent directly to the cardiac catheterization lab. Those who yield a normal EKG — the majority of chest pain patients — undergo further evaluation.

When it comes to heart attacks, they say, "time is muscle."  We established our Chest Pain Center so that we can quickly identify the causes of chest pain, prevent heart muscle loss and improve outcomes.
