Quality Improvement (QI):
Systematic, data-guided activities designed to bring about immediate improvements in health care delivery in a particular setting
It is designed to bring about immediate improvements in healthcare delivery.
It is designed to have its findings applicable only to the local institution.
Results must be completely anonymous, and results should be presented as aggregate data.
Note: Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval is not necessary. *IRB approval cannot be given retroactively should a QA/QI provide interesting results that the investigator would like to publish. Any publication resulting from a QI project may not refer to the activity as research and it must be clear that the publication is the result of a quality improvement or educational/competency assessment.
