Who We Are
The Friends of South Shore Hospital is a network of dedicated individuals with a common commitment to support and promote the community-based mission of South Shore Hospital. Members of the Friends consist of individuals who support the Hospital’s critical role in the community, those who have a special connection with a particular program area, as well as leaders from the Hospital’s professional staff. Friends bring their experiences and perspectives together to advance the good health of the region by coordinating a spectrum of volunteer activities driven by the membership; including community outreach and educational programs, fundraising events and social opportunities.
The Friends of South Shore Hospital exists to engage individuals, former patients and family members, community leaders, and Hospital staff in a spectrum of opportunities – including philanthropic, volunteer, educational and social activities – to support and promote the Hospital’s mission of healing, caring, and comforting.
The Friends of South Shore Hospital will be the regional charitable social network of choice because we will:
Attract members in such numbers that we are the largest and most recognizable charitable membership organization in our region
Sponsor various types of activities that provide a direct connection and service to the mission of South Shore Hospital – such activities shall include fundraising, volunteer, educational, and social events
Enable members to participate in such activities that are related to and directly benefit their specific areas of interest in our Hospital
Connect members with professionals or other resources in their areas of interest so that they may have opportunities to remain engaged with the Hospital, our leaders, and our programs
Link members with others in our region with common experiences and interests
Inform members of important Hospital initiatives, developments in healthcare, and events of interest to them and their families.
What Are The Friends Affinity Groups?
The Friends consists of individuals with special affinities to South Shore Hospital. Involvement may be based upon a personal encounter or connection with the hospital, or simply a desire to involve oneself in the community.
We encourage people like you to support the hospital through these special interests and initiatives. Other groups are always being formed. You can find our ten Friends Affinity Groups listed at left. Please call 781-624-4170 if you have ideas or suggestions.
These groups engage in various community programs, such as:
- NICU Stroller Stroll
- Hoedown for Hospice
- Have a Heart Tennis Challenge
- Educational Classes
- Book Club
- And many more...
The goal of these programs is to further the health and well-being of area families. Over the years, these programs have helped The Friends remain the single largest donor organization to South Shore Hospital.
Key hospital initiatives and continued funding could not be achieved without the participation of the men and women of The Friends. Their passion for improving community services and resources is what makes South Shore Hospital's important health care goals possible, as well as enabling the realization of future goals.
That's where you come in.
If you are passionate about making life and health care on the South Shore the finest it can be, then The Friends welcomes your involvement.
You are invited to learn more about The Friends by attending one of our meetings. One of the Friends will cheerfully meet you at the door. If you are interested in joining The Friends or would like more information, please call Membership Services at 781 624-4170, and start making a difference for your community - and for yourself.
