Hard of Hearing
Services for patients and family members who are Deaf, Late Deafened or Hard of Hearing
South Shore Hospital is committed to being responsive to the communication needs of all patients and family members who are deaf, late defened or hard of hearing. Interpreters and assistive devices will be offered free of charge. We will always try to arrange for a live interpreter for a person who uses American Sign Language (ASL), but when an interpreter is unavailable or delayed, we have another option called NexTalk which is a video conferencing system that can be used when available and appropriate. We also have TTY phones.
For patients who are hard of hearing, we offer alternative communication methods:
-
Amplified handset
-
Pen and paper
-
Communication Board
-
TV closed captioning
-
Writing Board
