Welcome

It is South Shore Hospital’s policy to be responsive to the communication needs of patients with limited English proficiencies, as well as those who have visual, verbal, auditory or cognitive disabilities. It is vital when our patients come to South Shore Hospital, that the patient, their family and staff, are able to understand each other. In order to be responsive to these needs and facilitate communication, we have services and resources available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for our patients and providers. Services are provided at no cost to patients.

Hospital staff members use a variety of resources to facilitate communication, including hiring trained medical interpreters, dual handset telephone interpretation, utilization of DT Interpreting services which provides Deaf Talk - a video conferencing system for real-time interpretation of American Sign Language, and/or providing written and graphic materials in a language familiar to the patient. The Patient Relations Department coordinates services for those who have limited proficiency with the English language.
