Limited English Proficiency Services
- The preferred method of communication with patients of limited English proficiency is a trained medical interpreter through an interpreting service/agency. Dual telephone handset interpretation is also available.
- South Shore Hospital has certain patient education materials translated into languages that are most frequently spoken by its patients, including consents for treatment, patient’s rights and responsibilities, and health care proxy information. In addition, the hospital has a communication board that can be used to help patients communicate their health status through the use of universally recognizable graphic images.
- Use of patient’s family members, friends and minor children for translation is prohibited. Use of such individuals may compromise the assessment, safety and care of the patient.
- For more information, please call the Patient Relations Department Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. at 781-624-8888, via email at advocacy@sshosp.org or after normal business hours at 781-624-8322 to reach the Administrative Clinical Coordinator.
