Record $25,000 Raised for
South Shore Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Stroller Stroll

Hanover, MA —  More than 250 people attended the 5th Annual Baby Steps for Babies’ Breaths Stroller Stroll at Hanover Mall on June 9, raising a record $25,000 to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at South Shore Hospital. Many of those taking a stroll around the Hanover Mall were parents of babies who received care in the South Shore Hospital NICU.

The event was organized by the Friends of NICU at South Shore Hospital, a committee of the Friends of South Shore Hospital. The money raised will help purchase a Giraffe OmniBed for the NICU, a key piece of equipment that has a built-in scale for frequent weighing, provides humidity to reduce the water loss that occurs through a premature baby’s thin and fragile skin, and provides heat to maintain the baby’s body temperature.

Many thanks are extended to the Hanover Mall and all the merchants there who generously donated raffle and auction items. And special acknowledgement goes to the Goyette Family, the Peckham – Rich Family, the Walsh Family, YMCA at Mill Pond, Peabody Resident Services, Dunkin’ Donuts at the Hanover Mall, and Braintree Toys “R” Us for their generosity.

NICU parents and families, as well as NICU staff and volunteers who pitch in to make this event a continuing success also deserve recognition. They personify South Shore Hospital’s mission of healing, caring and comforting.

Donations to go toward the purchase of the Giraffe OmniBed are still being accepted. For more information on South Shore Hospital’s NICU and how you can get involved in supporting South Shore Hospital, call (781) 340-4170 or log onto www.southshorehospital.org.

Next year’s Baby Steps for Babies’ Breaths Stroller Stroll is scheduled for June 7, 2008.
