Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy assists patients with re-learning or learning new skills to regain independence with daily tasks, such as grooming, bathing, dressing, home management and return to work tasks. Treatment may include addressing cognitive, neurological, or strength deficits; education on the use of adaptive equipment; and recommendations for home safety or ergonomic modification.

The Occupational Therapy staff specializes in rehab of injuries to the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder, including:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Repetitive stress syndrome/cumulative trauma

  • Reconstructive surgery

Working closely with the referring physician, each patient is provided with a comprehensive, individualized therapy program, which may include:

  • Neurological rehabilitation
  • Upper extremity evaluation and treatment
  • Range of motion, strength, and endurance training
  • Pain management
  • Sensory re-education/desensitization
  • Scar/edema management
  • Injury prevention education
  • Custom designed and fabricated splints
  • Patient/caregiver education
  • Modalities – for example, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, paraffin, iontophoresis
