Physician Director Election
Election Process Announced
A message from John Feldman, MD, President, South Shore Hospital Medical Staff
These are very difficult times in health care. The pace, magnitude and extreme nature of the external forces driving today’s rapidly changing health care environment are unprecedented and make Physician leadership critical now more than ever. The Medical Staff has empowered HPSO and its five elected physician directors to lead our alignment efforts, provide a physician voice in the system’s strategic planning efforts and to help ensure physician legacy. Please nominate yourself, or encourage one or two of your colleagues to run for one of two open HPSO seats. Any physician who is a member of the active staff is eligible to run regardless of the group to which they belong (e.g HMA, HCS, SSMC, Granite, BWPO, Compass, Atrius, etc). Applications from interested candidates are due by Friday, November 1, 2013.

HPSO is a not-for-profit subsidiary of South Shore Health and Educational Corporation, the parent organization of South Shore Hospital. HPSO was established to align the interests of our community, our physicians and our hospital to improve and expand health care access, quality, availability and efficiency.
The HPSO Board comprises five Active Medical Staff members and four hospital-appointed administrators, supported by an executive director. The five HPSO Physician Directors are elected by the members of the Medical Staff. The HPSO chairperson must be an Active Medical Staff member and also serves on the South Shore Health and Educational Corporation Board of Directors.
About the HPSO Physician Director Election
HPSO Physician Directors serve three-year terms. The terms are staggered so that the HPSO Board benefits from the experience of longer-serving Board members while welcoming fresh perspectives from new Directors.
The terms of Drs. Michael Ayers and Matthew Weiss will expire in April 2014. HPSO’s bylaws mandate that the election process begins now to provide sufficient time for interested candidates to apply, be selected, and be interviewed.
The HPSO Nominating Committee – which comprises the HPSO Chairman, Medical Staff President, CEO/President, and the two At-Large elected members of the Medical Executive Committee – will review all applications, conduct interviews, and name the candidates. We invite any interested Active Medical Staff member to apply to be a HPSO Director.
HPSO Physician Directors are instrumental in shaping the future of the organization and our medical community. HPSO needs strong Medical Staff leaders who understand the strategic issues facing us and the patients we serve. We seek problem-solvers, visionary leaders, and collaborators.
Your comments are always welcome and we encourage you to vote in the upcoming election.
Thank you for your consideration.
