South Shore Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs for patients recovering from a broad range of injuries and illnesses. We offer rehabilitation for children and adults to restore function, relieve pain, promote healing and prevent disability.
Rehabilitation services are offered to our patients within the hospital setting, to outpatients in our Outpatient Rehabilitation Center and Cardiac Rehabilitation Department, in homes for patients of South Shore Visiting Nurse Association, and through our community exercise programs. Last year, our rehabilitation services team made more than 70,000 inpatient and outpatient therapy visits, as well as 21,000 community exercise visits.
Rehabilitation services available at South Shore Hospital include:
Inpatient Rehabilitation– includes occupational, physical, and speech therapy services provided to hospitalized patients, including those in our intensive care, neonatal intensive care, pediatric, infant and maternal health, and medical/surgical units.
Outpatient Rehabilitation– includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, exercise physiology, and aquatic therapy provided at our Outpatient Rehabilitation Center.
In-home Rehabilitation– includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy provided by South Shore Visiting Nurse Association in the comfort of patients’ homes.
Cardiac Rehabilitation– provides inpatient and outpatient services to help cardiac patients return to a healthy lifestyle by offering exercise, education and emotional support.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation– provides services to alleviate symptoms and help patients with chronic pulmonary conditions return to their highest level of functional activity.
Community Exercise– includes a variety of exercise programs designed to improve overall wellness and increase stamina.
Joint Replacement Education Class– designed to help prepare patients for joint replacement surgery, post-surgery recovery, and rehabilitation.
