Spoken Language Interpreters
Limited English Proficiency Services
South Shore Hospital is committed to meet the communication needs of patients and their families who speak and/or understand limited English by providing trained, medical interpreters, when available and appropriate. Interpreters follow the HIPAA Privacy and Confidentiality standards and are provided at no charge. Some documentation and educational materials including: Consent for Treatment; Patient Rights and Responsibilities; Health Care Proxy Forms are available in various languages upon request. We also offer dual handset telephones to help with interpretation needs of those who are non-English speaking. Communication boards which display universally recognizable graphic images are also available.
Sensitive to Diversity Among Us
Our staff is knowledgeable about cultural differences among the people we serve. Cultural awareness and staff training is provided on topics specific to caring for patients/family members with disabilities as well as those who come from a variety of cultures and faith traditions.
