Surgical Services Overview
South Shore Hospital's surgical services include several unique programs, including:
Our main operating room features 14 brand-new operating suites, each is outfitted with the latest equipment and technology to assist surgeons in performing all types of procedures - from highly complex vascular surgery to more routine appendectomies.
Following surgical procedures, patients initially recuperate in our post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). Our PACU features 29 beds and is staffed 24 hours a day by registered nurses.
Day surgery is performed at both the Dolphin Surgical Center at 55 Fogg Road and at the Outpatient Services Center at 780 Main Street, one block north from South Shore Hospital's South Weymouth main campus.
Our endoscopy suite features three procedure rooms and 11 patient beds. It is staffed by registered nurses on Mondays-Fridays, from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The unit primarily cares for patients requiring colonoscopies, gastroscopies, liver biopsies, and bronchoscopies.
The central processing department supports our surgical program by assuring a ready supply of sterile equipment and instrumentation.
