Informed: Questions to Ask Your Doctor Before
You Have
Surgery
South Shore Hospital's surgical team includes 188 board-certified surgeons, 25 board-certified anesthesiologists, 21 certified registered nurse anesthetists, and more than 245 nurses, technicians, and other perioperative staff members who work collaboratively on behalf of patients - before, during, and following each operation. Together, the team performs approximately 15,000 inpatient and outpatient surgeries each year.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
South Shore
Hospital offers minimally invasive and image-guided operating techniques.
Minimally invasive procedures are commonly used at South
Shore Hospital for hernia, gall bladder and appendix surgeries, as well as
for complex procedures involving the colon, liver, stomach, esophagus,
bladder and reproductive organs.
It is now possible for surgeons to reach the same internal organs through a
few small incisions instead of large ones — reducing patients’ pain and
speeding their recovery. South Shore Hospital surgeons use tiny cameras, miniature
microscopes, fiber-optic lights, voice-activated technology, and
high-definition monitors to see inside the body and manipulate delicate
tissue. Powerful imaging technology makes it possible for our surgeons to
operate on specific areas with precision and accuracy.
The Dr. James A. and Mary Lynd Dolphin Surgical Center at 55 Fogg Road features
14 operating suites, outfitted with the latest equipment and technology to assist surgeons in performing all types of procedures
- from highly complex vascular surgery to more routine day surgery procedures. Outpatient (day) surgery is also performed at our Outpatient Surgery Center at 780 Main Street.
Our Outpatient Rehabilitation Center assists surgical patients in regaining maximum flexibility and mobility following their operations and our South Shore Visiting Nurses are expert in facilitating surgical recovery at home.
South Shore Hospital follows recognized standards and guidelines for surgical practice, as established by the Association of Operating Room Nurses, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, Centers for Disease Control and the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses.
