South Shore VNA Rehabilitation Services

Since 1911, South Shore Visiting Nurse Association (SSVNA) has been caring for South Weymouth- and Boston-area patients in the comfort of their homes. Our therapists provide care to people for the whole continuum, from infants to the elderly through end-of-life care.

Many patients become deconditioned during an illness or hospital stay and benefit from home therapy to return to their prior activities. Our in-home rehabilitation services include physical, occupational and speech therapy; each year , our therapists make more than 36,500 visits to patients’ homes.

Conditions We Treat

We’re able to treat a wide variety of diagnoses in the home environment, including:

Orthopedic conditions, such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Fractures
  • Osteoporosis
  • Total joint replacements

Neurological conditions, such as:

  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Stroke

Cardiopulmonary conditions, such as:

  • COPD
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Pneumonia

In-Home Therapies We Provide

  • Physical Therapy: South Shore VNA physical therapists work with patients exhibiting a decline in functional mobility due to impaired strength, limited joint mobility, pain and/or neurological impairments. We work with patients in the home to improve strength, range of motion and/or balance to maximize independence. Education is provided to both patients and care plan partners in regards to equipment needs, pain management techniques and exercise programs.

  • Occupational Therapy: Our occupational therapists work with patients experiencing difficulty performing the general activities of daily living (ADLs) due to physical problems that are affecting function. We educate patients and care plan partners in exercise programs, energy-conservation techniques and equipment to improve function in household tasks such as eating, bathing and dressing.

  • Speech Therapy: Speech therapists work with patients that are experiencing difficulties with oral motor control, swallowing, cognition and/or speech and language skills. Often times, these skills have been affected by a neurological event/disease or head/neck cancer or underlying medical disease process. We educate patients and care plan partners on home exercise programs to maximize these skills.
