Signifies highest quality nursing care; only 7% of organizations recognized nationwide
South Weymouth, MA—July 1, 2014—For the second time in a row, South Shore Hospital has received Magnet® designation from the Magnet Recognition Program® of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Only eight other hospitals in Massachusetts and only seven percent of health care organizations nationwide have achieved Magnet designation.
According to ANCC, Magnet designation is “the ultimate credential for high quality nursing.” Magnet designation also reflects a hospital’s environment and administrative structure which solidly supports nursing practice. South Shore Hospital submitted 1,800 pages of documentation and underwent a three-day site survey during which Magnet appraisers conducted interviews with several non-nursing hospital colleagues about their relationships with nursing. This second, four-year Magnet designation was the result.
“Great nursing practice is a key part of the high quality care we provide our patients. Across every clinical service—emergency department, home care division, medical/surgical service and so on—our nurses have dedicated themselves to advancing their practices. They work as a team with other clinical providers including physicians, physician assistants, technicians and nursing assistants, as well as with patients and their families, to provide the highest quality, compassionate care to our patients,” said Timothy Quigley, RN, MBA, NEA-BC, Vice President of Nursing/Chief Nursing Officer.
