South Weymouth, MA – July 15, 2014 – U.S. News & World Report today released its Best Hospitals 2014-15 annual ranking of hospitals nationwide and South Shore Hospital made the Top 10 for both Boston Metro and Massachusetts!

South Shore Hospital was ranked sixth out of 77 hospitals in the Boston Metro area and eighth out of 116 hospitals in Massachusetts.  The U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals 2014-15 report also gave South Shore Hospital high marks for patient satisfaction, showing scores higher than the national average. And South Shore Hospital earned “High-Performance” rankings in 10 specialties:

  • Diabetes & Endocrinology
  • Ear, Nose & Throat
  • Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
  • Geriatrics
  • Gynecology
  • Nephrology
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery
  • Orthopedics
  • Pulmonology
  • Urology

According to the U.S. News & World Report website, the rankings were calculated according to four major factors:

  • 27.5 % - Reputation with specialists
  • 32.5% - Survival of patients
  • 10 % - Patient safety
  • 30% - Other care-related indicators (including patient volumes, nurse staffing and other quality care measures)

This is the fourth year in a row that South Shore Hospital has made the Top 10 rankings for hospitals in Boston Metro and Massachusetts. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals report.
